For 29 years, the Bacon Bowl Association presented a classic football challenge between law enforcement officers that have benefited local children charities. In 2006, the Bacon Bowl Association stayed the course in benefiting children’s charities but reached our goal by using different means. Each of this means are driven by our passion to support and benefit children charities.

Every year since 1979, over 3000 officers have participated in the Bacon Bowl charity events.  Officers from the Seattle Police, Tacoma Police, Pierce County Sheriff, King County Sheriff, University of Washington Police, King County Corrections, Pierce County Corrections, Washington State Patrol and many others. Compassionate and dedicated people just like you, have come together to make the Bacon Bowl event a success, and one of the largest events that benefits children’s charities in the United States.

The Gun’s and Hose’s event was the result of thirty years of fundraising by hundreds of Police Officers and Firefighters. In 1980, the first Bacon Bowl Football game was played pitting Seattle and Tacoma Police Officers in a tackle football game in the Kingdome. This game also featured one Tacoma Firefighter, Dave Wilsie.

After 28 games and raising over 2.5 million dollars for children’s charities we found it to be too expensive and require too many participants to continue the football game.  So, in 2007 we had the first annual “Fist’s “N” Cuff’s, an amateur boxing match pitting area Police Officers against each other. Another match was done in 2008, both at the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma. These two events raised over $50,000 for the charities.

During the 2008 event the ring announcer, Pat McCurdy of the King County Police Department, challenged area Firefighters to enter the ring for the 2009 event. The firefighters answered the bell for this year “Guns and Hoses”
